We're gearing up for our first long distance cycle tour with some experienced friends and our kids. Our trip includes myself, Gareth Earl, my wife Kaya Downs, and our two girls (Patti and Rosie) aged 3.5 years and 10 months. Our friends joining us include John Main, Stephanie Main, and their two boys (Gavin and Jeremy) aged 4 years and 1 year. We leave May 1 from Whitehorse, Yukon and fly to Zurich, Switzerland. From Zurich, we plan to build our bikes in the airport and take the train to Tuttlingen, Germany - where we start our tour. From Tuttlingen, we plan to bike along the Danube River to Budapest, Hungary. The trip is roughly 1,200 kilometres and we are planning to spend a leisurely 2 months biking and camping! Seems like a short distance for such a long trip, but keep in mind that we've got four little kids and tons of gear. I'm sure there will be some melt downs, but overall we are confident that this will be an excellent way to see Germany, Austria, and Hungary. Here's some photos of our crew:
